How to use a cat harness

Review: Cat harness
Brand: Trouble & Trix
Paw-rating: Five paws!
Mum, dad and I had a dilemma.

It was summer. It was hot. We all wanted to go outside.

Out the back of the house was a small courtyard, and it would have been hard to find me if I'd slipped through the fence.

The front of the house was busy with lots of cars going past. It was a bit dangerous!

So mum and dad got me a Trouble and Trix cat harness so I could play outside... and stay safe.

They got me used to the harness by practicing inside. They popped the small loop over my head, and then buckled the big loop around my waist, ensuring both buckles were facing up. (A few cat treats helped with this process.)

Once I was used to wearing the harness inside, I got to wear it outside. At first the harness made me feel a bit funny and I slunk around on my tummy. But then I got used to it. Soon I didn't even notice I was wearing it.

It was a great way to stay safe AND enjoy summer!

Please be careful when walking a cat outside to ensure it's done up nice and tight. It can be hard to tell with long hair cats. Also if you go near a street and a car passes - your cat may bolt - mine did.
Peaches slid out of the harness then because she was in a fear state she even ran away from me after the car had gone. I had to wait till after dark then return to the same spot and call her to get her back.

Scary! I'm fortunate I was able to train my cat to run to my patio door when he panics. He's harness trained too, and there have been a couple times where he panicked and got his lead tangled on a bush. I unbuckled him and he ran straight home! It took awhile to teach him where "home" was, though, because I live in a row of townhouses all set up the same, and he would run to the wrong door.
